Developing perennial fruit crop models in APSIM Next Generation using grapevine as an example

چکیده
Abstract A new model for grapevines (Vitis vinifera) is the first perennial fruit crop using Agricultural Production System sIMulator (APSIM) Next Generation framework. Modules phenology, light interception, carbohydrate allocation, yield formation and berry composition were adapted or added into APSIM to represent nature of fruit-bearing vines. The simulated grapevine phenological cycle starts with dormancy phase triggered by a critical photoperiod in autumn, then goes through subsequent phenophases sequentially finally returns cycle. canopy microclimate module within was extended allow row interception. arbitrator enhanced consider both sink strength priority reflect reserve as concurrent competing sink. Weather conditions source–sink ratio at developmental stages used determine potential components, e.g. bunch number, number fresh weight. calibrated tested extensively four detailed data sets. captured variations timing measured budburst, flowering véraison over 15 seasons across New Zealand five different varieties. calculated seasonal dynamics interception alley consistent field observations. also reproduced dry matter organs, wide variation components caused weather pruning regimes. modelling framework developed this work can be other crops.

APSIM Next Generation: The final frontier?
For twenty four years, the Agricultural Production Systems sIMulator (APSIM) has grown from a farming systems framework used by a small number of people, into a large collection of models used by many thousands of modellers internationally. The software consists of many hundreds of thousands of lines of code in 6 different programming languages. The models are connected to each other using a ‘c...
متن کاملFrom forest to field: perennial fruit crop domestication.
PREMISE OF THE STUDY Archaeological and genetic analyses of seed-propagated annual crops have greatly advanced our understanding of plant domestication and evolution. Comparatively little is known about perennial plant domestication, a relevant topic for understanding how genes and genomes evolve in long-lived species, and how perennials respond to selection pressures operating on a relatively ...
متن کاملEstimating nitrate leaching under a sugarcane crop using APSIM-SWIM
The Lower Burdekin Delta (LBD) is located on the dry-tropical coastal strip in North Queensland, Australia. The region is Australia’s largest sugar producing area with approximately 38,000 hectares of land under sugarcane. However, the LBD also borders the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA). Thus industry, community, and federal, regulatory and environmental organisations are inter...
متن کاملTraining the Next Generation of Neurosurgeons in Developing Countries – Mission Possible
One of the main concerns in different countries is training young neurosurgeons to treat patients. Each country is dealing with this issue with a certain strategy considering its goals. Training physicians is far different from many other fields, as it cannot be accomplished in the library or by reading books. This fact becomes even more notable when it comes to the neurosurgery which requires ...
متن کاملDeveloping the next-generation climate system models: challenges and achievements.
Although climate models have been improving in accuracy and efficiency over the past few decades, it now seems that these incremental improvements may be slowing. As tera/petascale computing becomes massively parallel, our legacy codes are less suitable, and even with the increased resolution that we are now beginning to use, these models cannot represent the multiscale nature of the climate sy...
